Pi-Star / WPSD hotspot setup

For a Pi-Star or WPSD hotspot running on a Raspberry Pi or similar. This is the most common configuration for a home station.

  1. Open the Pi-Star dashboard Browse to http://pi-star.local or the IP address of your hotspot. Log in if you have set a password.
  2. Enter configuration mode Click Configuration on the left. If prompted, enter your password.
  3. Set the host on each enabled mode For D-Star: set Startup Host to xlx159.duckdns.org and Startup Module to A. For DMR: set DMR Master to XLX159_BM and the port to 62030. For YSF: set YSF Host to xlx159.duckdns.org with port 42000.
  4. Configure the URCALL and module For D-Star, set Module to A and Pi-Star will fill the URCALL as XLX159AL. To switch modules, change the last letter: XLX159BL for DMR, XLX159CL for YSF.
  5. Set frequency and power Enter the frequency for your local hotspot, set the power to 5-10 mW for indoor use, and configure any duplex offsets if your radio is full-duplex.
  6. Apply and reboot Click Apply Changes at the bottom, then reboot the MMDVMHost service from the Dashboard page. The hotspot will register on the reflector in 10-30 seconds.
Tip: If the dashboard shows "MMDVMHost not running" after reboot, check the system log from the dashboard for the actual error. The most common cause is a typo in the hostname or a firewall blocking outbound UDP on the mode port.
